THEME: "EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES"

Equal Opportunities in the context of disability?
If you really stop and think about it, what does it mean?
Although “Equal Opportunities” for persons with disabilities can mean many things to many people, at its core, equal opportunities are all about treating all people equally, including persons with disabilities, regardless of the nature of disability.
It is about creating societies that embrace everyone, which include rather than exclude people.
It’s also about addressing inequalities that exist, so that a level playing field is created for everyone.
It’s about celebrating differences, and respecting differences.
It’s a way of thinking, acting and behaving.
It’s a recognition of the rights of people with disabilities… a recognition of abilities and capabilities… a recognition of one’s innate freedom of choice… all of which come together to create the foundation for equal opportunities.
In an equal opportunity world, there are no boundaries. Be it inclusive education, employment, universal access, healthcare or recreation. It means non discrimination in every aspect of ife – family, religion, culture, sports, leisure… In a nutshell – life itself… Equal opportunities apply everywhere.
