Magzine - Success & ABILITY
Success & ABILITY” –
our quarterly cross-disability magazine is in many
ways, the first of its kind in India. It
informs, inspires and interests its readers. It connects
the separate worlds of disabled and
non-disabled people and
persuades people who are presently indifferent
or ignorant, to become aware of disability issues. The magazine
strives to create a better society that looks beyond disability.
A society where people are first and foremost people
- disabled or non-disabled only next.
Success & ABILITY” is also available
as an Audio Magazine in audio cassette form through which
the entire content of the print version is made accessible
for people with vision problems or those who simply prefer
to listen, rather than read

National Centre for Information
and Communication Technology (NCICT)
Ability Foundation is also a strong advocate
of inclusive education at all levels and acts as a catalyst
in promoting inclusive education.
Offering disabled people choices in higher
education, access to change and mainstream employment has
been an important part of our work. This, we believe, is
a crucial step towards bringing to the fore their latent
talents and changing the stereotypic images generally associated
with them.
Mainstream employment today, more than
ever before, hinges on knowledge of various levels of Information
and Communication Technology (ICT). Our National Centre
for Information and Communication Technology (NCICT)
seeks to impart state-of-the-art computer education and
life skills that prepare graduates with disability to strike
out on their own in today’s demanding corporate
workplace. What initially began as part time computer training
for hearing impaired persons, soon culminated in the
establishment of our NCICT– initially set up as a
pilot project in the country in association with UNESCO.
Today, NCICT offers holistic and comprehensive job-oriented education
to graduates with hearing / visual / orthopaedic impairments.

Placement Wing
The right to work to the best of one’s
capability and qualification, is everyone’s right
– so too for a disabled person. However, some guidance,
sensitisation and proper routing in this direction is necessary,
not only for the candidate seeking employment, but also
for the potential employer who mostly does not think of
employing a disabled person. Ability Foundation's Placement
Wing acts as a stepping-stone, catalysing employment opportunity
from both sides of the fence.
If you are a qualified disabled person
and are in need of a job in India, you are welcome to contact
our Placement Wing.

Facilities
Cyber café
All visually impaired persons in and around Chennai can
browse the web at our Cyber café. We throw open our
facilities for the use of computers loaded with JAWS for
Windows (the speech enabled software that convertes every
cursor or mouse movement into clear speech). This then is
another step towards independence, empowering visually impaired
persons with the power of the Internet.
Talking Book Library
Our Talking Book Library is a storehouse of valuable books
for any disabled person who prefers to listen to books rather
than to read. More than 500 titles are available in audio-cassette
and CD form – textbooks, fiction, non-fiction, literature,
etc. A computer operates as a talking catalogue of the titles
available, providing the facility for readers to browse
and select. The catalogue is also available in Braille form.
Braille Printing Unit
Any visually impaired person can approach us with a request
to transcribe any book in Braille. We get this done for
anyone who requires this facility with our Braille printing
unit,
